Often the hardest part of having a party is working out what party theme to go with! You may have some party ideas to start with, like the occasion – Baby Shower, 50th Birthday Party, 1st Birthday Party, Hens Night etc.

Perhaps a favourite colour, football team, favourite animal or place – such as Butterfly Parties, Soccer Party, Hawaiian Luau or Mexican Fiesta!

Here is a brief summary of some of the popular birthday and party ideas we see here at Party on a Budget.

Baby Shower Party Ideas

Baby Showers traditionally feature yellow, blue and pink colour schemes, featuring baby animals – Elephants, Storks and Ladybugs are amongst the most popular.  The emerging trend this year has been Chevron Zig Zag, Stripes and Polka Dot Party Supplies.

1st Birthday Party Ideas

Always a popular party time, the 1st Birthday Party is often a great way to catch up after a busy year of getting used to having a baby!  1st Birthday parties can be anything from a laidback bbq to high teas.  Often a 1st birthday party will be based on the childs favourite animal – Elephants, Turtles, Ladybirds etc, or even a bright polka dot party will catch the eyes of all the little ones in attendance!  Rainbow parties where all things are different colours, work well at this age, such as red tablecovers, blue plates, green cutlery, yellow napkins, orange cups - match it with a rainbow cake and a polka dot candle and everything is covered!

2 – 10th Birthday Party Ideas

Themed partyware works well for this age group.  Themed party supplies featuring characters such as Peppa Pig, Cinderella, Ariel, Disney Frozen, Barbie and Minnie Mouse are popular with the girls, whilst Disney Pixar Cars or Planes, Hot Wheels, Avengers Assemble and Transformers are a hit with the boys.  Easy to co-ordinate with plain coloured tableware – you can keep the costs down with highlighting your party with licensed party accessories – such as a scene setter or hanging decorations and use plain coloured tableware that matches the main colours, such as Light Blue or White for Frozen, Red or Blue for Hot Wheels etc.

16th Birthday Party Ideas

The Sweet 16th Birthday Party is an emerging party celebration here in Australia.  Often celebrated with Hot Pink, Silver, Black and White it’s a great party to have fun with and splurge on the colour and the fun of being 16!  Zebra print is very popular as is Hollywood Classic – Black Silver and Gold.

18th and 21st Birthday Party Ideas

Coming of Age Parties are a great way of mixing family and friends together to celebrate!  A great way to get everyone talking is to have a themed party.  Popular themes include Movie Awards Night, Hawaiian Luau Party, Decades Parties – such as 1970’s Hippie Party, Disco 1980’s Party and 1950’s Rock and Roll Nights.  Masquerade Parties are very popular as are costume parties, White Parties (where everything is white, including the guests clothing, the party decorations and the cake!)

30th / 40th / 50th Birthday

These milestone party events are a great way to catch up with people and celebrate a great life!  Themes also work well for these birthdays, such as Mexican Fiesta, Oktoberfest, Hawaiian Luau, Decade Parties, Casino or Poker Parties.

Engagement and Wedding Party Ideas

A lot of party supplies decisions in relation to Engagements and Weddings will come from where the occasions is being celebrated.  For example, garden or outside celebrations can lend itself to a vintage retro party theme, whilst an inside venue may suit Black, Gold, Silver party decorations more.

The great things about parties is they are a celebration – whether it is a celebration of an impeding birth or the celebration of the journey so far, parties mean a chance to catch up with old friends, to remember great times and make new memories and stories to be shared at the next catch up!  I will keep updating you with more ideas, photos and share my favourite Pinterests!

Til next time..
